Alta banka: KRIK reports prosecutors’ allegations over €370m in recorded exchange-office takings

KRIK has reported details of a prosecutor’s investigation into Alta banka, including allegations that €370 million was booked as Alta Pay takings without reaching the bank vault.

On 4 November 2026, investigative outlet KRIK reported on a prosecutor’s order opening an investigation into Alta banka. According to the document reviewed by its journalists, prosecutors suspect that substantial sums were recorded as daily takings from the Alta Pay exchange-office business even though the money allegedly never physically reached the bank’s central vault.

What the reported investigation document says

The allegations concern approximately €390 million. KRIK reported that around €370 million may have been booked as fictitious exchange-office receipts, while some cash was allegedly removed directly from the vault. These are allegations contained in an investigative document, not losses or criminal conduct established by a final court judgment.

KRIK also said that National Bank of Serbia Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković is listed among prospective witnesses. Being named as a witness does not make someone a suspect or defendant. Everyone suspected in the case is entitled to a defence and the presumption of innocence.
