The Commercial Court in Belgrade opened bankruptcy proceedings against Alta banka on November 3, 2026. Serbia’s Deposit Insurance Agency was appointed bankruptcy administrator, while Banka Poštanska štedionica was selected to handle insured payouts.
What depositors need to know
The agency says it will publish the start date for reimbursements and the list of participating bank branches by Friday, November 6. This is the deadline for announcing the arrangements, not a promise that every customer can collect funds on that date. The statutory timetable requires the payout process to begin within seven working days after bankruptcy was opened.
Eligible deposits of individuals, entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium-sized companies are covered up to the statutory maximum of €50,000. Dinar deposits will be repaid in dinars; deposits in other currencies will be repaid in euros, according to the agency.
Customers should rely on the agency’s official announcements for locations, documentation and timing, and should ignore unsolicited messages requesting transfers or sensitive account information.
