Serbia’s temporary fuel excise cut expires on 8 November: prices could rise

Serbia's temporary 25% reduction in fuel excise duties is due to expire on 8 November. Any price increase remains conditional on government decisions and market costs.

Serbia’s temporary reduction in fuel excise duties is scheduled to expire on 8 November 2026. Petrol and diesel pump prices could increase if the government does not extend or amend the measure, representatives of the Students’ List warned on 4 November, according to BBC News in Serbian.

What the potential price rise means

Dejan Radivojević, a Faculty of Mining and Geology professor and Students’ List candidate, estimated that removing the 25% reduction could add more than 21 dinars per litre to petrol and more than 22 dinars to diesel, if the full additional cost were passed on to consumers.

Those figures describe a conditional scenario, not confirmed new prices. Retail prices also depend on wholesale costs, tax policy, margins and any further government decision. At the time of the BBC report, the Ministry of Energy had not confirmed that the measure would be extended.

Drivers should consult official announcements and current prices at individual filling stations. It would be misleading to assume that all stations will increase prices by the same amount on 9 November.
