In the summer of 2025, bus and train services between Serbia and Hungary remain robust, especially on routes to Hungary’s capital, Budapest. Our editorial team studied which buses run from Serbian cities to Budapest, their prices, travel times, and service providers.
SRBIJA NEWS – The most popular route is Belgrade–Budapest. According to platforms like FlixBus, CheckMyBus, Busbud, and ComparaBUS, at least two direct daily departures operate. The journey typically takes around six hours, with tickets priced between €25 and €37.
The best deals are usually from FlixBus and ComparaBUS—starting at €25. Meanwhile, Busbud occasionally lists fares up to $146, but the typical ticket costs €28–€32. Buses depart from Belgrade’s central station, with FlixBus, Terra Travel, and Siamos Tours being the primary operators. Tickets are also easily searchable via OptionTrip.com, where you can find deals and optimal transfer schedules.
Travelers from other Serbian cities can use connecting buses. For example, you can transfer through Novi Sad and Subotica using services by Siamos Tours and Conecto Travel. Depending on the specific route, travel time ranges from 5 to 7 hours. Services like Rome2Rio even offer night bus options and faster connections.
An alternative option is the route between the border town of Horgoš and Hungary’s Szeged. Buses (line 5030) and direct MÁV trains operate along this corridor. Buses run hourly and take 33–37 minutes, while around five daily MÁV trains complete the route in just under an hour, with tickets priced at 460–550 HUF (€1.30–€1.60). Schedules are best checked on MÁV’s official site or via Rome2Rio.
Additionally, a high-speed rail connection between Belgrade and Budapest is planned to launch soon. Currently in the final stages of planning, the line will pass through Novi Sad and Subotica and is expected to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h—reducing travel time to under three hours. This project promises to revolutionize infrastructure and greatly ease travel between Serbia and Hungary.
In summary, traveling from Serbia to Budapest in summer 2025 is more accessible than ever. When choosing a route, consider schedules, transfer options, and early-bird discounts. The most favorable fares are often found on OptionTrip.com, FlixBus, CheckMyBus, and ComparaBUS.
The Horgoš–Szeged MÁV route also offers an affordable, convenient alternative. And, keep an eye out for updates on the high-speed railroad—it’s poised to make the Belgrade–Budapest route even faster and more comfortable.
