A group of 24 professors at the University of Priština, with its temporary seat in Kosovska Mitrovica, has called for the resignation of the rector and vice-rectors. The signatories raise concerns about academic freedoms and what they describe as political pressure on the institution. Serbia’s public broadcaster RTS reported on the demand on 4 November 2026.
What prompted the demand
According to RTS, the group cites decisions it believes indicate interference in recruitment and the work of university bodies. Some signatories were also candidates on the Students’ List in Serbia’s parliamentary election. The initiative’s organisers have started a petition seeking further support.
These allegations reflect the views of the 24 signatories; they do not constitute a judicial finding that laws were broken. A full assessment would require relevant documents, a response from university leadership and information from the competent education authorities. A demand for resignation does not itself mean that any official has left office.
The dispute matters particularly to students and staff because it concerns university autonomy, working conditions and the continuity of teaching. No resignation by the rector or vice-rectors had been confirmed when the original report appeared.
