Georgia has officially confirmed its participation in the international Expo 2027, which will take place in Belgrade from May 15 to August 15, 2027. Georgia’s involvement in Expo 2027 is a significant step toward strengthening the country’s international image and advancing its cultural diplomacy. The theme of the exhibition, “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All,” aligns perfectly with Georgia’s cultural and sporting identity.

SRBIJA NEWS – Expo 2027 in Belgrade will be the first event of such scale in the Western Balkans and is expected to attract over 4 million visitors from around the world. Located on the Black Sea coast and serving as a bridge between Europe and Asia, Georgia has long been an active participant in international exhibitions. The country made its debut at Expo 2000 in Hanover and has been a member of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) since 2008.

The Belgrade exhibition also coincides with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Serbia — a partnership founded on shared historical, cultural, and spiritual values. Georgia’s participation in Expo 2027 will mark a new chapter in the development of Georgian-Serbian relations.

Dušan Borovčanin, CEO of Expo 2027 LLC, emphasized the importance of Georgia’s participation and expressed confidence that the country will deliver an inspiring interpretation of the exhibition’s theme. He noted that the number of participating countries is growing rapidly, and organizers are steadily approaching the target of 120 nations.

Georgia will showcase its rich cultural heritage, sporting achievements, and unique traditions at the exhibition. Among the national sports to be featured are Lelo Burti—a team game similar to rugby—and Chidaoba, the traditional Georgian wrestling included on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The popular board game Nardi, requiring strategic thinking and widely played in Georgian society, will also be presented.

Georgia’s cultural program at Expo 2027 will include performances of traditional dances such as Kartuli, Khorumi, Acharuli, Samaia, and Osuri, each reflecting different facets of social life—from romantic expressions to heroic valor.

Modern sporting accomplishments will also be highlighted. Georgia’s most famous footballer today is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a star of Paris Saint-Germain and UEFA Champions League winner. In 2025, the Georgian national judo team became world champions in the team category, and Levan Saginashvili, a multiple-time world armwrestling champion, regained his #1 world ranking at the championship held in Chicago. Rugby and chess—both considered national sports in Georgia—also thrive in the country, which has produced numerous champions and grandmasters.

The 2027 international exhibition in Belgrade will offer Georgia a unique platform to showcase its cultural identity, tourism potential, and strengthen global partnerships. Georgia’s participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade is a strategic move aimed at boosting the country’s global visibility, expanding its tourism sector, and presenting its cultural uniqueness to millions of visitors from across the globe.
