In the coming months, Serbia and Hungary will launch the implementation of a strategically important energy project — the construction of a new oil pipeline. This announcement was made during a meeting between Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Pavel Sorokin, and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó.
SRBIJA NEWS – According to Minister Đedović Handanović, the project carries not only commercial but also broader strategic importance for the long-term energy stability of both Serbia and Hungary. The new pipeline will provide an alternative route for crude oil supply, significantly enhancing energy security in the region amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
The Minister emphasized that the governments of Serbia, Hungary, and Russia support the implementation of this project. She noted that the Serbian side is finalizing project and technical documentation and will be ready to begin construction work early next year. Péter Szijjártó confirmed that Hungary is also expected to start construction on its section of the pipeline in 2026.
Meeting participants highlighted the importance of diversifying energy supply sources and developing new energy routes. They noted that these steps are crucial for ensuring reliable energy access and reducing dependency on a limited number of suppliers.
The Serbia–Hungary oil pipeline project has become a key part of the energy strategy of both countries, aimed at strengthening energy independence and infrastructure development. In the face of today’s challenges, such as supply disruptions and rising energy prices, projects like this play a vital role in supporting the region’s sustainable development.
