On September 19, 2025, a high-speed train was spotted at the Subotica railway station, attracting significant attention from local residents and travelers. However, at that time, the official launch of high-speed passenger services between Subotica and Novi Sad had not yet taken place.
SRBIJA NEWS – According to plans, the high-speed railway line between Subotica and Novi Sad will begin regular passenger operations in the near future. The exact launch date depends on the completion of all necessary permits and safety checks, which remain essential conditions for starting service.
As part of Serbia’s railway infrastructure modernization, a high-speed train service is planned between Subotica and Belgrade. The journey time between these cities will be approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. The new train features four carriages, accommodates 250 passengers, and can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.
Future plans include extending the route to Budapest, reducing travel time between the capitals of Serbia and Hungary to 2 hours and 45 minutes. The route may also include stops at intermediate stations, including Bačka Topola, providing convenient access for residents of smaller towns.
Thus, while a high-speed train was spotted at Subotica station on September 19, 2025, the official launch of high-speed services on the Subotica–Novi Sad line had not yet occurred. In the future, the train will connect Subotica, Belgrade, and Budapest, with potential stops at key intermediate stations, offering a fast and comfortable cross-border travel option.
